Good morning! Last week, I blogged about Gold Medal Winter. This book was divided up into three sections: 1,2, and, obviously, 3! I liked it. A big plot that got my attention was when Esperanza fell. Esperanza, as you may recall, is the main character. Her nickname is Espi. I used her nickname last week. Although, the title could use improvement, it is a good book. Really!
This part of the book is really where drama gets Esperanza. Her mom's visa is not coming through so she cannot make it to the Olympics. Or can she? She is dating Hunter Wills. Then they get in a fight and she is becoming closer friends with Danny Morrison. The news asks if it is true that they are in a fight and Hunter says "No." Espi wonders how Danny might feel. The rumors are growing branches out of the main rumors. Then branches off those branches... so on, so on. Some how her secret got out. She was going to do the Quad Sal which is a very complicated jump, something not a single female figure skater has done before. The only people who could have told were Coach Chen and Hunter! Coach Chen would not betray Espi. She loves her. Did Hunter expose the secret? Can Esperanza handle all the conflict?
I just talked about a lot of drama. With her being in the middle of all this drama she can't concentrate. Since she cannot stay focused she ends up falling in front of everyone! Her dream is slipping away from her. Coach Chen will NOT let that happen. Coach Chen keeps reminding her "It is not your only chance" and "There still are the solos!" Does she go to the solos? Does she win at the solos? Will her mom be able to come for the solos? Does she fall during her last chance?!? If you read it all the answers will be in the book. Read it and find out for yourself.
This is an amazing book with many plot twists. It is so suspenseful. It gets you hoping nothing but the best for Esperanza at the Olympics. I felt a little disappointed that I was done with the book. Have a good day!
