The One and Only Ivan

I am constantly reading books. I am still reading Harry Potter, but one thing you may not know is that every night before bedtime, my mom reads me a chapter (or a few!) of a book. Usually we read chapter books, but occasionally, she reads me picture books. Currently, she is reading me The One and Only Ivan.

So far, the book is sad. It is about a silverback-an adult male gorilla- that lives in a mall for a circus. In the book the gorilla- Ivan- expresses himself. He talks about the wild and how he was kidnapped. He is also frequently talking about one of my favorite character: a little girl named Julia. She loves doing art projects and gives Ivan the chances to draw and paint, too!

Ivan had a really close friend: Stella the Elephant. Soon someone unexpected came. She was an elephant and her name was Ruby. Stella was like a mother to Ruby. Stella was wise. She said to Ivan, "I have never made a promise because promises are forever." Later in that chapter Ivan has to promise Stella something. It is the first promise Stella has asked of anyone. If anything happens to her she wants Ivan to take care of Ruby. She wants Ruby to have a better life than them. If you are curious where this book is going I recommend you read the book!
