- How reading changes your perspective
Reading changes your perspective in reality you can reflect back on what happened in you book and what is happening now. You can compare and contrast. You can get ideas. You can see similarities. You have a different take on reality. You also can put yourself in the characters shoes. You will be able to think "Oh in that scenario I would..." Doing this helps you predict your books and people who can predict parts of their books are usually good readers. This is why I like reading.
- Gift Giving With Books/ Susan and the Butterbees/ Frankie and Bug
Gift Giving With Books Hello! Sorry for posting late this week. I also realize that a few days after Christmas is probably the worst time to post about gift giving, but I am still going to post about this. Here are some ideas for December birthdays, any birthday, a holiday, or really anything. One of the best books I have received is a book called Frankie and Bug. It was from my mom's friend. This is the book I am currently reading. I know gift giving may be hard when you have so many options. If you are getting a gift for someone, why not get them a book? You can be very thoughtful with books. I post about lots of books. Most of the books I post about are very good books. You could get ideas from my blog, other blogs, recommendations from your local bookstore, or bestseller lists if you would like. Choosing to give somebody a book narrows down the options of what to get them. You may want to give them a book that you have read so that you know it is good. You could give away a book that you have already read. I personally do not like to read books more than one time. I hope this gave you some ideas even if you may not use them for a while. Susan and the Butterbees I was at my grandmother's house and wanted to smell a book. (I know how weird that sounds. I just like the smell of an old, musty book.) My grandmother has several books. First I smelled one in the room where my parents were sleeping. The smell was not right. Then my dad brought me to her set of encyclopedias and asked if they were the right smell I said "no." They were close but not perfect. My dad looked through more books. He was like " Wow! These are all classics!" He also saw one he had never heard of. It was called Susan and the Butterbees. He took it off the shelf and started reading it aloud. He only got through the first page because it was time for dinner. I liked the book. I started reading it on my own. I am only on page three because I am reading a different book right now called, Frankie and Bug. I am pretty sure this book is about how the sandman got his name. I will tell you more about it another day. Right now I do not know much about it but I can tell that I will like it. Frankie and Bug This book is amazing! It is about a girl named Bug who has gone to the beach every summer for the past two years, with her brother. However her brother, Danny, needs space now. That means he cannot bring Bug to the beach. They do end up going to the beach sometimes but not at all as much as they used to. Philip is one of their friends. His nephew was coming to be with Bug for the summer so she was not bored. Philip's nephew's name is Frankie. Bug thinks it is strange that Frankie and Philip have never met. It seems that Frankie will ruin Bug's summer. Frankie does not like the beach and he thinks that the L.A. area is weird. Then Bug and Frankie realize they do have something in common. They are both interested in the "Midnight Marauder." They want to catch this attacker. In my opinion this book is one of the best books I have read. (keeping in mind I always say that for whatever the current book I am reading is) I am loving this book and highly recommend it.
- Frankie and Bug
Hello! Happy New Year! I got more into this book (like about 100 pages into it) and I realized that it was a mystery book too. It is beautifully written and contains exquisite vocabulary. Even though those are all good things in a book, they make the suspenseful parts of the books more suspenseful. This is just my opinion though. You should keep in mind that you have a different opinion than me. I generally do not like mystery books. I am going to keep reading it, though. I do not want you to think it is a bad book. It is such a good book. This book is more than just a mystery book; It also has an unpredictable friendship. The friendship of (you probably know this from the title) Frankie and Bug. When I read this book, feelings flood me. I have felt joyful, annoyed, disgusted, and most of all embraced. To me a book embracing you means you are really into the book. None of these feelings last, though. As soon as I put down the book, I feel a different feeling. Joyfulness does put me in a good mindset though. It is amazing how authors can make you feel a certain way. That is partially why I love books so much. Again, I really recommend this book. If you have any questions like, "What is the mystery?" or " What feeling will I feel the most of?" I recommend finding out for yourself and reading the book. Good bye!
- The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More
The first thing I would like to clear up is that I am not giving you a summary of Henry Sugar and multiple summaries of six other books. It's title is really The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More. Now that we are all clear on that, let us jump into this miraculous book. I am still unsure on where this book is going but often times you can look on the back of the book and it gives you a summary. Before I read it, I looked on the back of the book to make sure it would be something that I would like. It seemed good enough, and I love the author. The author is Roald Daul. As you may know I just finished another one of his books, Danny the Champion of the World. I loved that book! Anyways, I just thought I would like this book. I started it yesterday, so I am not much into the book. I am only on page fifteen. The font size is very small though. Currently there is a big argument over a ginormous turtle. I think there will be a huge adventure. All I will say is that I feel like this turtle is going to be important. I think it may be fun to read the book at the same time. I am really liking the book, and I recommend it to you! If you have any questions like "What was the argument about?" or " Where did the turtle come from?" I think you should read the book.
- The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More
The first thing I want to do is to tell you "Hello," but the second thing I want to say is that what I said last time (about me not giving you a summary of six books) is partially false. You see, the book is divided into seven sections. Each part contains a different story. One of the little stories is "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar." Each of them are short stories. I do not think any of the stories connect, but maybe they do and it will be pointed out at the end. If I tell you too much about one section, I will give the story away. I will not tell you too much about any of these, but I will briefly summarize each story. In "The boy who talks to animals," the boy (who talks to animals) saves a giant turtle from being eaten. In "The Hitchhiker," a man picks up a hitchhiker and they talk in his car for a while. They are going to London. "The Mildenhall Treasure" a man finds treasure. This treasure was not acknowledged for several years later due to a war. In "The Swan" these two cruel boys set out with a gun that one of them had gotten for his birthday. The boys start killing some birds. After that, they are super mean to a boy, named Peter; He is the exact opposite of them. I have gotten to what I am currently reading," The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar." I cannot tell where it is going though, so I will leave you with only this knowledge: This is a really good book and if you have questions on it. For example, "How does the boy save the turtle?", "Is there more to the story of 'The Hitchhiker?", "What is the treasure?", or" I do not see why the boys are so bad." Then I recommend reading the book.
- The art of writing
It is not only reading that changes you it is writing, too. Spilling your ideas, opinion, thoughts, knowledge, and imagination on to paper. Sometimes people feel that they cannot tell anyone something. Sometimes it feels that no one will listen. Paper will listen and you can trust it to keep a secret. This is partly why people have diaries. I won't talk about writing much because that is not what my blog is about, but I know and you should know that I love writing. Blogging is, as a matter of a fact, writing. That is why I like it so much. I just wanted to cover that.
- The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More
Hello! This will be the last time I will talk about The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More. I just wanted to cover what The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar was about because it is what the book is named after. This short story is about a man, Henry Sugar, that reads a book and gets inspired. He wants to see with his eyes closed. He works with the power of yoga. As you may have already noticed (because I put the words in bold) I think that story is amazing! It is what you get when you join books, sight, and yoga together. In my opinion, it might be the best combination for a book. This man was selfish, but yoga changed him. He goes around the world collecting money for a good cause. Maybe you are wondering "What is the cause that Henry collects money for?", "Does he master yoga and contain the ability to see with no eyes?" If you have these questions then I think you should (you know what I am going to say) read the book! Bye.
- "Mrs. Piggle Wiggle"
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle can basically solve any problem a child has. Won't eat dinner she can solve that. Not cleaning up a kids room she can solve that. If she can't solve the problem nobody can. Although this is not something you can do in reality the book is funny. So let's explore her techniques.
- Time For Bed Miyuki
Sorry I have not been posting. I've been on vacation with no WiFi. By the way shout out to Erin with the first comment it was so sweet and nice. Anyways here is a book to read to your kids before bed. "Time for Bed Miyuki" is about a young girl who now has to go to bed and has so much more to do. I can imagine that a lot of kids can relate to this. Days fly by very quickly. The wording that the author uses is nice and the illustrations in this book are beautiful, too.
- My new digital reading habits
I mostly read with hard copy books but I know some people might read ebooks or have a kindle. When I do read a book online I listen to an audio book. That is still not really reading, though. I do read some ebooks, though. I read "Because of Winn Dixie" electronically. The internet has gotten so powerful it even has books?!?!?!?
- Due!/ On the Shores of Silver Lake
DUE! Getting book from the library is a great way to get books. What if someone just kept a book though? That is where renewing books comes in handy. When you renew a book from the library, you get it for another couple of weeks. In my school library, you can only renew it once. If you renew it you only have a total of two weeks to finish your book which sounds fine but it is hard to finish very long books. Today I have a quick story about only having two weeks. I had renewed my book, and I was doing the math of how much longer I would have it. I realized I only had a week. I was not that close to the end of the book either. Two days before it was due I still had seventy pages to go. I was worried I would not make the deadline. Seventy pages is not as bad as it sounds, though. I finished the book on the last day I possibly could. It was a close call, but that did not ruin how good the book was. On the Shores of Silver Lake This book is amazing! It is mainly about a family in the time period of pioneering. This is one of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books about the Ingalls' family. They go out west to a place where a town is soon to be built. Pa had gotten a job there. The only problem was they needed to find homestead. Pa was not worried about that though. Mr. Boast is a close friend of theirs and he reminds Pa of the Spring Rush. Not even this comment would be able to get to Pa's head. When the Spring Rush does arrive, it worries Pa. Their are so many men coming to claim their land! He stops procrastinating and files their homestead. Pa wants to continue west but Ma wants to be completely settled. Which parent gets their way? If you are curious if they go on another adventure or they stay in the peace read the book. The picture above is three people in a library. This has to do with my "Due."
- The First Visit/ On the Shores of Silver Lake
My First Visit! Hello! I just went on a trip to Colorado. It had been years since Winter Park had a bookstore but someone came in and fixed that. Miriam Roskam loves books. She hated that she had to drive hours just to go to a bookstore. Therefore, she opened a bookstore of her own. Her bookstore is called Mountain Shire Books and Gifts! It is a tiny, little place but has tons of books! My mom got the very book her book club was reading without even looking for it! ( It is called School for Good Mothers.) If you go try and find Mountain Shire Books and Gifts, it is in Cooper Creek Square. You should keep in mind that the bookstore is on the second story. Again, it is in Winter Park. Here are some nice facts about it. It has a cute patio. In the children's section I found a lot of books I like and other kids my age like: Diary of a Wimpy kid, Dog Man, and Harry Potter. It opened during COVID. They also have cute gifts (pins, magnets, and water bottle stickers) By the Shores of Silver Lake While we are talking about bookstores and libraries, I would like to give a shout out to my school librarian. I got a book from our school library this week (wait, I actually renewed it) and it is such a good book! It is from one of my favorite series. It is a classic. It is... Little House By the Shores of Silver Lake. The series is Little House. There is lots of action, yet none at all. It is calm and sincere, yet dramatic and suspenseful. The Ingalls family is moving west again! Pa really wants to find homestead there. Then when the town gets built Laura can go to school. Ma wants Laura to go to get education along with the rest of her daughters. Mary got scarlet fever and is now blind. Laura has to see with her words for Mary now. Pa finds a job out west and everything is going right.....until it is not. One night Laura and Carrie encounter a buffalo wolf. You will remember from earlier in the book Pa saying "I'd hate to meet one without a gun." What happens? Poor Carrie! Poor Laura! I suggest you go read the book to make sure there alive.
