  • Harriet the Spy Part 2

I finished the book so I will be making 2 posts this weekend and if you are still wondering why they put "book 1,2,and,3" in the book you are like me. After finishing the book up I still do not know. So if you are looking for the answer I am just telling you now that you will not find it from me. Also if you have not read part 1 I recommend going back and reading it. The people who stayed and have not read Part 1, do not say I did not warn you! I read this book and got a feeling that we touched on a bit earlier in my blog. I got the feeling of when you are loving a book and you zoom or blow through a book. I know some people get the same feeling. Do you like mystery books or books with a big plot? If you just said yes to either of those you will like this book. Harriet writes in her note book all sorts of things. Here is one example: If Marion Hawthrone doesn't watch out she's going to grow up into a Lady Hitler. Rude right? But it is just Harriet's way of getting her thoughts out. I wonder what she would write about me. She has a criticism for everyone. She is not mean though she just is critical. When her notebook gets into the wrong hands what will she do? Mean things about everyone are in there! All her friends are furious. What happens?

  • The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler

Good morning! Today I am going to finish blogging about "The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler." I loved this book and may I point out that it won the Newbery Award. This is a big metal for a book. In the other half of the book that I did not tell you about Claudia and Jamie meet Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. She is the one writing the files, too. Claudia also finds a statue named "Angel." It may or may not of been made by Michelangelo. Claudia would like to find the truth. The original owner was Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. She sold the statue to the museum. Claudia and Jamie look for Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, hoping that she has some answers. The story is for you to read. Figure out if the kids get home safely. Do you think they find Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler? Do they get answers? Does Claudia get to return home a different person? Will she get to have a secret like she hopes? All the answers are in the book! Bye for now!

  • The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler

Sorry that I have not posted lately. I have been busy. To be honest I'm busy today too but I think I can squeeze this in. Let me tell you in advance I most likely will not be blogging next week because my family and I are going on vacation. I do have bad news for you though, I was not enjoying island of the Blue Dolphins that much so I stopped reading it. Now I am reading "The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler." I will say I like this book because it is really like you are reading a file. Sometimes Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler will talk to you in her files writing "Have you ever been to a museum?" she calls you Saxonberg though because Saxonberg is her lawyer and she is writing this for him/her. This is weird, but in both "The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" and "Island of the Blue Dolphins" kids are alone. In "The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" (I hope you understand how annoying it is to keep having to spell that out) kids are alone because they ran away when Claudia, the main character, did not feel she was being treated fairly. Of course, when kids run away there is a lot of mystery and for some reason Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler is spying on Claudia. I will tell you why when I know. An interesting thing about this book is that people that I talk to are either saying "Oh! That is such a good book" or they say "I have never heard of that!" Anyways I am loving this book, and I will try to keep you posted.

  • 2 in 1

Sorry I have not posted; I will talk about 2 books in 1 post. Then I will be able to catch up with my reading. The 2 books will be: Nancy Drew and the Quest of the Missing Map and Who was Ruth Bader Ginsberg. NANCY DREW and the QUEST of the MISSING MAP I was writing a book report about a mystery book of my choice for school. I picked a Nancy Drew book. Mystery books are not really my style, but I liked this book. Sometimes I get nightmares about mysteries, but I did not get any this time. It ended pleasantly, too. Mr. Tomlin is looking for his long lost brother who has the other half of his map. He is not the only one that wants the map, though. Spike Dotty and his crew want it too. Nancy gets sabotaged many times. Nancy is a great sleuth. At the end all the questions are answered. What are the answers? You read it! WHO WAS RUTH BADER GINSBERG? I read this book and I think the "Who Was" company does a great job of producing nonfiction. It all turns really fascinating. I find Ruth as an inspiration. I want to be a lawyer too when I grow up. There is always more to learn about everything. She was a very hard working woman. When her husband got sick, they were in law school. She printed all of his notes and did his work for him. She also took care of a toddler and her law school homework. She was not perfect, though. Nobody is perfect. Nothing is perfect. She was a horrible singer and it took her six attempts to get her drivers licence. That is perseverance too. There are more inspiring facts in the book, and if you liked these facts I would recommend this book to you.

  • The Giver - Part 1

Do you know the phrase "cannot put a book down?" That is what happens to me with The Giver. Literally. I like this book so much that I could read it for hours. I have so much to say about this book. One thing I'd like to say is that you really feel like you are in the book when you read it. I know these are things a lot of people say about books, but it is true. I personally love books by Lois Lowery. Again, I said this at the beginning of my blog, but I want you to remember you do not have to like all books or all of the book recommendations. Several people liked "Island of the Blue Dolphins" but I did not like it. I would recommend "Island of the Blue Dolphins" not because I liked it but because so many other people liked it. Back to the Giver though. It may actually be my new favorite book. I give it 5 star reviews out of 5 stars. It is not over the top but it is just perfect. It is about a young boy named Jonas. In their land they have ceremonies every year for becoming ages one through twelve. At the age of twelve you are assigned a job. The Elders watch your volunteer hours and pick the perfect job. Jonas has been doing everything though, and he has no clue what he will get. His assignment comes with pain. It also comes with happiness though. What will happen? What is his job? Is it his true calling? Wait scratch that last question out. Who am I kidding? The Elders are never wrong. Or are they? Read this amazing exciting book. I highly recommend it. Good bye for today.

  • The Giver - Part 2

I will start by saying the end is not the expected. It's sweet though. Gabe is saved and the people get to experience life. What is life anyways? They talk about this in Tuck Everlasting, too. (that is recommended, too) Is it living then dying? Is it enjoying it? Is it being present? Remembering past times? Hearing music and seeing color? In The Giver my mom commented she thought it was music, color, and love. They have no love either. Can you imagine? All that given to one person, a single person. They cannot tell anyone about it . It has got to be overwhelming. Painful too. Receiving and being in all the old, new, and any other types of memories. It must be fun, too, though. Like seeing the beach in a memory. Having the ability to see color. Also, he's given SO MUCH respect. The job is different in different case scenarios but it is cool. What surprised me at the end though? Read to find out.

  • Gold Medal Winter Part 1

I am currently reading a book about an ice skater, Espi, who always dreamed of going to the Olympics but never thought of it as a reality. Suddenly Jennifer, who was another figure skater chosen for the Olympics, gets injured and the Olympics chose Espi. She is famous now! Another character is Danny. Danny is another Olympian from Rhode Island just like her. He is also on ice but not figure skating; he does hockey. The news is setting her up like she is going to marry Danny. Danny and her hate this. As a matter of a fact Espi does not even like Danny! I play the piano, but I would be able to do it well without practice. Everything comes with practice. If something is easy, it is simply not worth it. All the accomplishments in life take work. It takes practice to know how to figure skate. It takes practice to be good at figure skating. It takes practice to make it to championships of figure skating. Think of all the practice Espi needed to make it to the Olympics . Espi is a hard working young woman and will let anything get in the way of her and the ice.

  • Gold Medal Winter Parts 2 and 3

Good morning! Last week, I blogged about Gold Medal Winter. This book was divided up into three sections: 1,2, and, obviously, 3! I liked it. A big plot that got my attention was when Esperanza fell. Esperanza, as you may recall, is the main character. Her nickname is Espi. I used her nickname last week. Although, the title could use improvement, it is a good book. Really! This part of the book is really where drama gets Esperanza. Her mom's visa is not coming through so she cannot make it to the Olympics. Or can she? She is dating Hunter Wills. Then they get in a fight and she is becoming closer friends with Danny Morrison. The news asks if it is true that they are in a fight and Hunter says "No." Espi wonders how Danny might feel. The rumors are growing branches out of the main rumors. Then branches off those branches... so on, so on. Some how her secret got out. She was going to do the Quad Sal which is a very complicated jump, something not a single female figure skater has done before. The only people who could have told were Coach Chen and Hunter! Coach Chen would not betray Espi. She loves her. Did Hunter expose the secret? Can Esperanza handle all the conflict? I just talked about a lot of drama. With her being in the middle of all this drama she can't concentrate. Since she cannot stay focused she ends up falling in front of everyone! Her dream is slipping away from her. Coach Chen will NOT let that happen. Coach Chen keeps reminding her "It is not your only chance" and "There still are the solos!" Does she go to the solos? Does she win at the solos? Will her mom be able to come for the solos? Does she fall during her last chance?!? If you read it all the answers will be in the book. Read it and find out for yourself. This is an amazing book with many plot twists. It is so suspenseful. It gets you hoping nothing but the best for Esperanza at the Olympics. I felt a little disappointed that I was done with the book. Have a good day!

  • Who Was Kamala Harris/ The Fabled Fourth Graders of Aesop Elementary School

Who Was Kamala Harris Kamala was the FIRST at a lot of things. Kamala was the FIRST person of color and the FIRST female to become the vice president. Interestingly, she did not pass her FIRST bar exam. She took another one. Then, Kamala Harris passed the exam! Then she served as a district attorney. Soon after that she became a senator. What does this strong woman influence you to do? What does she mean to you? "Who Was Kamala Harris" is full of detail. You can really paint the picture in your head. It is short, though. I would say about 70 to 90 pages. Some of the books I recommended are 200 to 300 pages long! If you want to learn more about this fascinating woman you can read the book! The Fabled Fourth Graders of Aesop Elementary School I am also reading a book called " The Fabled Fourth Graders of Aesop Elementary School. I would usually recommend more difficult books. This book is funny, though. Plus there is a moral at the end of each chapter. Well, each chapter except the first one. I have no idea why. A quick summary of the story is that there is a class that always misbehaves. When they find a teacher for them, the teacher, Mr. Jupiter, can tolerate anything, other than bullying. To spit balls he would say " What a creative thing to do," and when they name call him he says "Oh what a beautiful name!" The kids liked to get on teachers' nerves so the are unhappy with this. After a while they grow to like him, though. Any more questions on the book? Just read it.

  • Poetry/ Danny the Champion of the World

DANNY THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD I have not gotten very far into this book. Danny's father has a secret that he has been hiding for years. One night Danny wakes up and his dad is not home. He looks all around, but his dad is nowhere to be found. He waits on the steps of the caravan that they live in. Who knows how long he was there? When Danny's dad gets home, Danny has tons of questions. His father respects that he has questions. His father reveals his deep dark secret and all the other secrets that go with the main secret. Danny is shocked! The secret leads to an eventful journey. POETRY Poetry is writing. I wrote a poem about books in the shape of a book. I absolutely love writing and poetry is one of my favorite types of writing. Not only is it fun to write; it is also is fun to read. A lot of poems rhyme or have a consistent beat. Some poems just jot down emotions. I had to think of a poem off the top of my head the other day and here is what I came up with: Eggplants are yummy. Eggplants in my tummy. Did you plant the egg or did the egg plant something? See? It is definitely not a good poem but I came up with it in one minute. Better poems are ones that you put more time into. Like my poem about books. The picture below is my poem in the shape of a book. This is my book poem.

  • Are you there God? It's me Margaret.

Hello. I hope you are having a good day. I just want all of you to know that this book is not that religious. Also, if it makes you feel better to know that I don't leave out key details I am telling you: in GoogIe it says that this book does qualify as a young adult book, probably because of the talk of puberty. Actually, have only read half of it. Well, a bit more than half. So far it is about this girl named Margaret who wants to find her religion because everyone she knows has a religion. Her family is not religious because her parents come from two different religions. Her family decided that it was best to just go without a religion. It used to be no big deal; now it is getting brought up more often. Finally, her teacher assigns her whole class a year long report. She decides this topic will be what her report is about. That is only a fragment of the book though. I will warn you; do not have a child read this unless they are ready. It talks about Margaret and her friends. They start a secret club. For the secret club they each had to make a rule. Some of the rules fell apart, like the boy books. The boy books are for who they have a crush on. They had to change them every week. That was hard because they pretty much stayed the same. It also discusses puberty. It talks about periods and how they feel. All Margaret's friends are getting their periods. Margaret just wants to fit in! She wants to get her period. This book makes it hard to stop reading. Read more to find out more! That is it for today. Bye!

  • Danny and the Champion of the World/ Who Was Dr. Suess?

DANNY THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD Hello! Let us just hop right back into books. Last week we discussed Danny the Champion of the World. Danny learns a secret from his dad, as you learned last week. This secret pulls him into a crazy adventure. The adventure comes with the creative process and changing the way of doing the secret. Danny does it. It scares him. His dad says "That is the fun of it!" In my opinion, with all the books I have read, I am not sure Danny feels comfortable doing it. Of coarse sweet little Danny loves doing anything with his dad and he supports his dad but I have the vibe that he is not liking it. This book has surprised me many times, though. That is why part of me expects him to like it. Still I do not feel any sign of him liking to do it. We will surly see. I chose this book because of the author. If somebody asked me my top three favorite authors I would say " Out of all the great books I have read. I have got to say J.K. Rowling, Lois Lowery, and Roald Dahl are my favorite. They are all tied in first place though. They are not all in that order. All of them get first place, so I guess it cannot be first. Then what is it, though? Anyways, I got Danny the Champion of the World because of the author, Roald Dahl. I realized I had not read one of his books in a while. He is such a good author! I can say my favorite authors easily but my favorite book not so much. I usually just say whatever book I am currently reading. This book is so interesting so if you have questions about the adventure they go on or the secret, I recommend reading the book! WHO WAS DR. SUESS? For many of you, when I say "Dr. Suess" you may think of "Cat in the Hat" or "Green Eggs and Ham." He is more than just a writer. He changed children's books. Children used to learn to read by reading the same words over and over again. Now they have fun reading and actually learn at the same time. As a kid Dr. Suess liked to visit the zoo. When he came back home, he would paint what he had spotted at the zoo onto the walls of his room. The creatures never ended up looking just like what he saw, but he still had fun painting them. Did you know that Suess is actually his middle name? He also went by "Dr." before he got his doctorate so once he got his doctorate he claimed he was " Dr. Dr. Suess." He really said "Suess" like " Zoyce." That was the German fashion of saying his name. People called him " Suess", though. He liked that it rhymed with " mother goose" so he took in the name and used it.
